Catherine Zeta-Jones And Michael Douglas Unlikely To Separate

If the series of events during the recent past are anything to go by, Hollywood celebrity couple Catherine Zeta-Jones and husband Michael Douglas are unlikely to separate in the near future. For instance, the high profile couple appeared together with their two children at the MetLife Stadium on Sunday, February 2, 2014 to catch the Super Bowl game.

Photographers spotted the family standing in one of the private boxes as the National Anthem played before kickoff. Earlier in the day, the four left their home in New York to travel to Jersey for the big game. Things seem to be looking up for the couple that had announced a possible divorce in August 2013. In fact, sources close to the family reveal that the pair seems headed towards reconciliation.

The past few years have been tumultuous for the couple due to various reasons. For instance, in 2010, doctors diagnosed Michael with throat cancer (later reported as tongue cancer) and as a result, Catherine had to put her demanding career on hold to stay with her husband as he underwent chemotherapy and radiation treatment in Canada. The pressure took its toll on the Catherine who finally broke down in front of a 13,000 crowd that had gathered for the Ryder Cup Welcome to Wales Concert.

In April 2011, Catherine Zeta Jones suffered from Bipolar 11 disorder, and checked herself into the Silver Hill Hospital in New Canaan, Connecticut. In a candid interview with the Telegraph Newspaper at her New York home later on, she revealed that traumatic events in her life might have triggered the disorder.

After those difficult moments came to pass, Catherine and Michael got back on track with their busy acting schedules. Catherine appeared in the movies “Rock of Ages”, “Lay the Favorite” and “Playing the Keep”, while Michael appeared in “Haywire.” However, things were not as rosy as they appeared on the outside for the famous couple. On April 27, 2013, the Mask of Zorro actress checked back in to a healthcare facility due to her recurrent bipolar disorder. This was only a week after she appeared together with Michael on the red carpet for the 40th Anniversary Chaplin Award Gala ceremony held at the Lincoln Center. Curiously, she was not with her husband at the White House Correspondents Dinner held in Washington on the 25th of that month.

After her brief stay at the hospital, Catherine returned to Hollywood to work on two more movies: “Side Effects” and “Red 2″. In an interview, she stated that stress, lack of enough sleep, and busy work schedules had triggered the bipolar 11 relapse. She admitted feeling quite apprehensive before revisiting her role as Velma Kelly in the movie version of “Chicago” during the 2013 Academy Awards. This same role had won her Academy and BAFTA Awards for Best Supporting Actress together with numerous other accolades and nominations back in 2002 at the height of her career. Meanwhile, Michael was shooting the highly acclaimed movie “Behind the Candelabra: My Life with Liberace”. Suddenly, the media was abuzz with news that 35-year- old Cameron Douglas, Michael’s son with former wife Diandra Luker, was to be convicted for ten years on drug related offenses.

In the end, the aforementioned events became too much for the celebrity couple to handle, and they announced an imminent separation in August 2013. Catherine’s publicist Cece Yorke announced that the couple had opted to separate for a while and evaluate their marriage. People reported that Michael’s cancer, Catherine’s bipolar disorder, and family conflicts were behind the tension in the marriage.

Nevertheless, the couple’s 13-year marriage seemed set for a new lease of life as their wedding anniversary loomed in November last year. During that period, Michael thanked his wife for her support during the acceptance speech for the Emmy’s late last year, and declared his love for her during the Golden Globes earlier this year. The two have also been seen together wearing their wedding bands, first in New York at a family outing, then in Canada for the New Year celebrations, before the latest appearance at the Super Bowl 14.
