Bruce Springsteen, Chris Martin to fill in for Bono at World AIDS Day show

Bruce Springsteen performs at The New York Comedy Festival and The Bob Woodruff Foundation present the 8th Annual Stand Up For Heroes Event at The Theater at Madison Square Garden on Nov. 5, 2014, in New York.

Bono will have some heavy-hitters filling in for him during Monday night's World AIDS Day concert at New York's Times Square.

The U2 frontman is still recovering from last month's bike accident in Central Park, so he's not able to take the stage for the event -- now dubbed "U2 Minus 1 - Live in New York Tonight." So, Bruce Springsteen and Coldplay's Chris Martin will step in to sing a couple of U2 songs with Adam Clayton, The Edge and Larry Mullen Jr.

According to U2's website, "Friends have stepped in to save U2's surprise World AIDS Day (RED) performance which was jeopardised by Bono's November 16 bike accident in Central Park. "

Kanye West and Carrie Underwood will take the stage, too, at the event.

"This year is a World AIDS Day like no other," said Bono in a statement, speaking from Dublin. "The world reached a tipping point in the fight against AIDS -- more people were newly added to life-saving treatment than were newly infected with the virus. A lot of people are calling it the beginning of the end of AIDS."
